Dr. Brenner offers talks and workshops for high school students through schools, college counselors, gap year programs, non-profit organizations, college transition camps, mentorship programs, and at conferences. She also works with high school parents on helping their teens prepare for the transition and reentry to college. Andrea’s presentations focus on the academic, social, and emotional skills students need before college; moving from dependence to independence; college health, wellness, and safety; finding campus resources; productive communications skills; and having students take the central role in their college experiences. She offers sales/signings of her book, How to College, with her talks as well as discounted book prices for educational organizations and college counselors.
BIOGRAPHY:
Andrea Malkin Brenner, PhD is a first-year transitions educator who offers talks and workshops to high school students and their parents about the challenges related to transitioning to college. She is co-author of How to College: What to Know Before You Go (and When You’re There) (Macmillan, 2019). Andrea has worked with thousands of college freshmen over her 25 years at American University as a professor, the creator and director of AU's mandatory first-year transition course, and as the director of the university's oldest and largest living-learning community for first-year students.
