Mission: Chelsea School educates promising students with specific language-based learning differences in a rigorous, individualized college preparatory environment to become lifelong, independent learners.
Chelsea School serves publicly-funded and private students in grades 5 through 12 from across the Washington, DC metro area. Our students have average to above average intelligence and a diagnosed learning disability. Chelsea School accepts students performing above, below or on grade level. Despite their learning differences, our students exhibit areas of academic strength such as high level thinking skills, the ability to analyze and grasp information presented in a multi-modal format, and success on non-traditional assessments. Our three-tiered reading program is based on the acquisition of the basic skills of sound-symbol recognition and decoding, fluency, and comprehension. Our college-preparatory academic program is aligned with state and county standards and is approved by the state of Maryland and the OSSE to award standard high school diplomas.
