Kristen offers special education advocacy and consultation with families and schools (re) appropriate/legal school services / placement, attendance at school meetings, IEP reviews and development, eligibility/continuation for 504 plans, review/development of FBA/ BIP drafts, attendance at manifestation determination reviews. Expertise in assisting students with social/emotional/behavioral issues, learning disabilities and post-secondary transition plans. Kristen works in the public/private school systems in Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.
BIOGRAPHY:
Kristen Heyniger began her advocacy business in November 2017, after having retired from Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland with 35 years of service as a special education teacher and program coordinator for students with learning disabilities and social/emotional/behavior difficulties. She spent 4 years working at The American School in Rio de Janerio, Brazil where she was the special education administrator at the secondary school level. She comes highly recommended by both parents and students who have worked with her. She is passionate about and committed to ensuring students with special needs are receiving an appropriate education, and where their potential and talent is recognized and fostered by both teachers and administrators. She earned her Masters in Special Education from George Washington University. Kristen maintains her Maryland teaching certification in special education and is a member of COPAA, CEC and LDA. Kristen also sings soprano with the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
